Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals come with a comprehensive Rental Agreement that you will receive at the time of booking confirmation or when you collect your vehicle. This agreement outlines the terms, conditions, insurance coverage, fees, and your responsibilities for the rental period. In case of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Renting a vehicle with us requires:
- To hire a vehicle from Car Hire in Sussex, drivers must be at least 21 years old, although age restrictions may differ depending on the vehicle type, with possible extra charges for drivers under 25. A valid full driving licence suitable for the vehicle category must be presented, held for the minimum duration stated in the Rental Agreement. Additionally, valid identification, proof of current address, and payment information, including a security deposit, are required. Any further criteria outlined in the Rental Agreement must also be met.
Booking and Payment Process
- Reservations can be arranged via our website, by telephone, or at our Sussex office. A deposit might be necessary to confirm your booking. Full payment along with a security deposit is usually required upon vehicle pickup. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT where relevant. We accept major credit and debit cards, with secure processing through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of collection, you are required to conduct a thorough inspection of the vehicle and report any pre-existing damage without delay. A vehicle condition report will be finalized and signed by both parties. The vehicle must be returned in the same condition as it was collected, taking into account normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and charged as necessary. It is also important to return the vehicle with the same amount of fuel as at the start of the rental; failing to do so will result in refueling fees. Late returns may attract extra charges, so please notify us as soon as possible if you foresee a delay. You will be held accountable for any parking fines, traffic violations, or other charges incurred while the vehicle is in your possession, in addition to an administration fee.
Insurance and Liability Coverage
- All rentals come with basic third-party insurance included. You can find comprehensive coverage details and excess amounts outlined in the Rental Agreement. There may be options for additional insurance that can help lower your financial liability. It is advisable to review these options thoroughly. You will be accountable for any damage or loss up to the excess amount unless you opt for additional coverage. Responsibility for damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violations of these Terms remains with you, regardless of insurance.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice period provided. For precise details, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or no-shows may incur additional charges.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited Uses of the Vehicle
- Vehicles must not be used for any illegal activities. This includes racing, rallying, off-roading, or any other risky maneuvers. Transporting hazardous materials is strictly prohibited. Sub-letting the vehicle or permitting unauthorized drivers is not allowed. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is forbidden. Vehicles should only be used for their intended purposes, adhering to passenger and weight limits. Any travel beyond the designated geographical boundaries requires prior approval.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental termination and fees.
8. Liability Restrictions
To the fullest extent allowed under English and Welsh law, Car Hire Sussex is not responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, resulting from your use of our services. Our maximum liability for any claim will be capped at the total amount you paid for rental services in the previous 12 months. This limitation does not apply to claims related to death or personal injury due to negligence or fraud.
9. Legal Framework
These Terms are regulated by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes will be resolved within the jurisdiction of English and Welsh courts.

We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Changes take effect as soon as they are published on our website. Ongoing use of our services indicates your acceptance of the revised Terms.
